Ethos Urbanism
rchipelago Village creates excitement and energy in downtown Madison’s
eastern corridor. The Village integrates sustainability, a multitude
of uses to keep people downtown, bring people downtown and define their
way of life. But destination Archipelago is beyond New Urbanism
– it’s a sustainable, high density, multi use community with
a pre-supposed, specifically defined culture: ethos urbanism.
New Urbanism “promotes the creation and restoration
of diverse, walk-able, compact, vibrant, mixed-use communities composed
of the same components as conventional development, but assembled in a more
integrated fashion, in the form of complete communities.” Ethos
is a noun of Greek origin meaning “the typical spirit, character or
attitudes of a group or community.”
Archipelago combines the two: It's new urbanism that DEFINES the
culture of the people within and experiencing the place. New Urbanism
alone doesn’t touch on creating culture. Archipelago’s
connective design of a collection of buildings creates a specific culture
and spirit, thus the word, ethos.
